Love Where You Work

Boomerang-ing Back to Media Cause

In 2013, I first joined Media Cause as an Intern, while completing my B.A. in Marketing Communication at Emerson College and after I graduated, I accepted a full-time Digital Strategist role.

Over the next 5 years, I evolved from an Intern to a Digital Strategist, moving up to an Account Director—learning endless new skills and leading two of our key accounts. Media Cause was growing fast, expanding to new coasts, and I was growing right alongside it.

However, something was missing

I entered the company quite young and I began to have an urge to broaden my experiences and learn more about the inner workings at other organizations and industries. Although I loved the team and had a passion for our work, in 2018, I decided to leave.

From 2018 to January 2020, I embarked on my next experience, working for an educational fitness tech start-up. I learned new skills, gained a new perspective or two, and broadened my experiences. More importantly, I became a better employee, teammate, leader, and strategist.

After my time away from Media Cause, growing professionally and personally, I was able to return to the team that I loved—rejoining Media Cause this past February 2020. I didn’t expect to rejoin the team in the middle of a pandemic, but it solidified my decision to return even more. So what drove me back to Media Cause?

Passion

There is nothing more rewarding than being surrounded by amazing, creative people changing the world one day at a time. How many people can say they work for a greater cause beyond the bottom line—and for a company that wants to achieve greatness—together.

Opportunity

As a rapidly growing company, the opportunities at Media Cause are truly endless. I’ve seen Media Cause go above and beyond to support our staff’s aspirations and interests, even if this means starting a brand new career. The Media Cause leadership is genuinely invested in our team’s happiness and offering new opportunities—and my rejoining of the company in a completely new role is just one example of that.

Culture

I’ve been told from the very beginning “We take our work seriously, but that doesn’t mean we have to take ourselves seriously.” Media Cause is a place where people aren’t afraid to think outside the box or bring crazy ideas to the table. We’re not afraid to get in the weeds and get our hands dirty. We know how to be scrappy with our resources and how to achieve goals for our clients with limited budgets.

The Media Cause culture is one that sparks ideas, generates results while creating a welcoming team mentality.

Balance

Not many companies care about the mental and physical wellness of their employees. Before the pandemic, we had the flexibility to work from home 2x a week. During the pandemic, teammates have been able to adjust their schedules and even go part-time in order to take care of their families and responsibilities.

Client teams work a 30 hour billable work week leaving time for professional development and internal projects. We’re offered unlimited PTO and a monthly wellness stipend to encourage our team to take care of their physical and mental wellness.

At Media Cause, you can have it both, a life and an agency career.

Some may think It’s crazy to return to a company or it’s a step backward in your career. But for me, it’s a step forward with a new perspective and added value. A chance to help a mission, a company, and a team that I love to grow and evolve.

Not to mention, there is no other company I would want to weather a pandemic with. The last few months have been challenging for many, but Media Cause has made it manageable. The level of empathy, comradery, leadership, and transparency is yet another reminder that I have made the right decision to rejoin this incredible team!
