The Reading League seeks to expand access to evidence-based literacy materials to promote best practices for educators, caregivers, and school leaders. One important way they do this is via their Shop, which sells high-quality literacy products. These sales are mission-critical, not only generating revenue to support The Reading League’s mission but also ensuring evidence-based reading instruction reaches more educators and students nationwide. 

Despite offering high-quality literacy products, the online shop lacked a strategic paid media marketing approach. To maximize impact, The Reading League needed a targeted strategy to efficiently connect educators with evidence-backed reading materials.

Our Approach

Media Cause developed and executed a targeted paid media strategy on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram). These platforms were selected for their strong reach among educators, high conversion rates, and ability to feature specific products in ads. Key elements of the campaign included:

  • Engaging image and catalog ads showcasing top products, including the “Little Learners Love Literacy” series and other science-backed reading materials.
  • Lookalike audiences based on past purchasers and interest targeting for educators to drive new sales, complemented by retargeting campaigns aimed at shop visitors who had not completed a purchase.
  • Budget adjustments to align with educators’ purchasing cycles, with increased spend leading up to the back-to-school season.
  • Tech integration to ensure accurate tracking of ad performance and purchase data by linking Shopify with Meta to track the total number of purchases as well as their revenue.

 

The Impact

The campaign’s success extended The Reading League’s mission to advance evidence-based reading practices in classrooms. Over 240 educators adopted these impactful materials, ensuring thousands of students would benefit from scientifically aligned literacy instruction. The generated revenue further enables The Reading League to expand its advocacy and programs for evidence-based teaching methods.
